Bio
Charles Harding is a sound artist and composer based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. His work grows out of deep listening and a desire to build empathy toward natural spaces and non-human interconnections. Trained in electroacoustic studies at Concordia University (BFA 2022), Harding often works with field recordings and environmental sound as a way of mapping memory and place. His projects frequently take him into rural and remote settings, where listening becomes a way of building connection to landscapes and communities he might not otherwise encounter.
Residency Project
Charles Harding is a sound artist and composer who typically works with found sound from all sorts of overlooked indoor and outdoor environments. Charles will work with students to source and develop audiovisual artworks that deepen a sense of listening and a connection to place. He will utilize field recorders, software, and video to instruct on using all sorts of sound to create new audiovisual experiences in art.
Teaching Experience
My teaching experience involves many years of participating in workshops and music camps, which have included youth, covering sound design, field recording, songwriting, and music composition. My approach to teaching involves hands-on training with sound recording equipment and software to develop skills in deep listening and composition.
