Peter Powning

Since 1970, Peter Powning has lived and worked as an artist in the hills of southern New Brunswick. While Powning’s award-winning work is shown internationally, it is imbued with qualities distilled from a life lived close to the silence, space and seasonal rhythms of his home. He works in a wide range of media, often combining glass, cast bronze, stone, ceramics and steel. He has produced numerous large public art commissions across Canada. His work is also featured in many museum collections internationally. Powning’s awards and honours include the Governor General’s Bronfman Award, the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for High Achievement in the Arts, as well as an honorary doctorate from the University of New Brunswick.

How many pieces of artwork are in our collection?

collectionArtNB currently has approximately 960 pieces of artwork in our collection. These have been acquired throughout the past 50 years.

When and how will I receive payment for a grant?

For applicants who are set up for direct deposit, typically payments will be made within 10 business days of receipt of notification of results.

For those without direct deposit, a cheque will be mailed to grant recipients within 10-25 business days after notification of results.

I’ve received a grant but the project will no longer be taking place, how do I return the grant?

If your project is no longer taking place, it’s critical that you contact the program officer as soon as possible to notify us. Depending on the situation, we can advise you of next steps. To proceed with withdrawing the project, you will need to send a cheque for the grant amount made payable to “Minister of Finance” no later than March 1. Indicate on the cheque memo or attach a letter for what program the amount is for and mail to:
