Bio

A native of Tracadie-Sheila, New Brunswick, Joannie Benoit was crowned grand winner of the 2010 Gala de la Chanson de Caraquet and was a semi-finalist at the Festival de la chanson de Granby. In 2012, Joannie is part of the fifth edition of Star Académie. Her debut album Pot Mason was released in fall 2015. She takes part in Renée Martel's ROSEQ tour as opening act, and in the Acadie tour highlighting the greatest Acadian songs alongside Wilfred Le Bouthillier, Jean-François Breau, Annie Blanchard and Maxime McGraw. In October 2017, Governor General Julie Payette herself chose Joannie and Mélissa Bédard to perform Leonard Cohen's “Hallelujah” at her installation ceremony at the Parliament in Ottawa. Joannie launched her second album, Feux de Bengale, in February 2018. In 2023, she joined the ''Beauséjour'' project, a duet with Franco-Manitoban singer Jocelyne Baribeau. The first single from the song ''Beau gars'' is released the same year. In 2024, they are nominated at the Country Gala in the Group of the Year category and embarked on a Coup de Coeur francophone tour across Canada.

Residency Project

A collaborative project with learners to compose and write a theme song for their school. In parallel, I can combine vocal technique exercises (breathing, posture, voice placement). Several meetings will be held to encourage creativity and group work. Then, with the help of a producer, the song will be recorded with the learners. The pedagogical objectives are to

-Develop oral and written comprehension of a song.

-Understand and analyze the text of a song.

-Write a song and identify the different possible structures.

-Incorporate stylistic devices that can be used in texts.

-Enrich vocabulary.

-Listen to songs to broaden knowledge of francophone music in different musical styles.

Teaching Experience

As a passionate professional singer and musician, I've had the opportunity to share my love of music with young and old alike. My musical background, enriched by stage experience and vocal training, has enabled me to develop a teaching approach adapted to the needs and levels of each learner. My approach is to listen and personalize lessons according to each student's musical tastes, objectives and abilities. Music is a vehicle for pleasure and learning. I've led a number of singing and performance workshops. I've also given individual singing, guitar and songwriting lessons.
