Gisèle L. Ouellette is an artist born in Moncton, New Brunswick. She studied and lived in Ontario for 21 years. She has been a professor in the arts department at the University of Moncton since 1994.

Ouellette earned a B.A.A. in photography from Ryerson Polytechnical University in Toronto and a B.A.V. with a specialization in painting and drawing from York University in Toronto. Her artistic work explores the articulation of identity within a social, cultural, and family environment. She has produced solo exhibitions, notably in Toronto and Moncton.

Gisèle Ouellette's creations are often inspired by images she has photographed. She does not necessarily seek to represent a specific landscape. Her work is rather abstract, reminding us that these forms of nature are in constant motion. By working in series, she believes she can deepen her approach. “This is how I manage to achieve different nuances. I really like the surface, which is very sensual, and this way of working, even if I sometimes miss color. It allows me to learn and explore. As I work, certain questions arise. The work itself raises questions,” she adds.

She has participated in several group exhibitions in New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Louisiana, and France. Her works are included in the collections of the Fédération des Caisses populaires acadiennes, the New Brunswick Art Bank, the Art Gallery of the University of Moncton, Hart House at the University of Toronto, and various private collections in Canada and the United States. She is a member of Galerie 12, Galerie Sans Nom, Atelier Imago, the Bureau du regroupement des artistes visuels de l'Ontario (BRAVO), and the Women's Art Resource Centre (WARC).
